Last year a new fast casual restaurant launched in Disney Springs: Chicken Guy! We have had this on the list of places to try and were thrilled when we were recently invited to come by and enjoy a variety of menu items. We showed up hungry and ready to learn more about this new popular concept that is starting to expand to new locations across the country. Read on for all the juicy details…
About Chicken Guy
Chicken Guy! is located next door to Planet Hollywood at Disney Springs and is the creation of celebrity chef Guy Fieri and restauranteur Robert Earl (owner of Earl of Sandwich, Planet Hollywood, and more). The restaurant features one-of-a-kind, all-natural fresh chicken tenders, brined in fresh lemon juice, pickle brine and buttermilk, and infused with fresh herbs. There are also a wide selection of delicious sauces to explore. Guy knew chicken was a popular dish all over the world and decided to create a great recipe that could be the base for many flavor combinations.
The Restaurant
There is seating both inside and outside the restaurant. Being a fast casual style place you wait in line to order and then your food is brought to your table. Chicken Guy! has been pretty popular, especially on weekends so you will most likely find a line outside, but it seems to be fast moving.
The style of the restaurant was vibrant with bright colors and cool paintings. Touches like exposed brick and keg lamps were stylish but the Chicken mascot brings in some playfulness. There is definitely a relaxed atmosphere here that anyone would enjoy.
The Food
The Menu is at Chicken Guy! is pretty simple. They focus on one thing, and doing it well, but surprising there is also a lot of variety within the narrow focus. While the most well known dish is the classic chicken tenders you can also find sandwiches, salads, and sides. The main thing that allows you to keep coming back for new experiences is the sauces. There are 22 different ones to choose from to flavor your dish in all sorts of ways. We were floored when a tray of all 22 sauces was presented for us to try. (See below for both of our top picks!) Here are all the menu items we ended up trying…
CHICKEN TENDERS: 5 piece crispy fried and grilled all-natural tenders (7.99 each)
This classic item is hand made in house daily. The chicken was certainly juicy and crispy. It was nice being able to order grilled for a healthier option. The crispy pieces seem to be bigger while the grilled come on sticks. It was great to sample different sauces to see what went best with crispy vs grilled.
SIDE: Chicken Guy Fries (2.99)
These fries feature a signature seasoning were nice and crisp. They were a nice side to have to also dip into different sauces!
SIDE: Fried Pickle Chips (3.99)
This was an interesting one to try. With a sour dill taste and crispy outside they were a fun unusual side dish to try! (Great with the ranch sauce!)
SHAREABLE SIDE: Loaded Mac Daddy Mac ‘n’ Cheese ($7.99)
Super cheesy mac topped with chopped crispy chicken, bacon & green onions. This was sooo good. It could work as a meal as well.
SIGNATURE SANDWICH: The CG Classic (6.49)
This crispy sandwich comes with cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and Guy’s special sauce. The bun was really buttery good and this sandwich was awesome. One of the best chicken sandwiches we have ever had TBH. Andrew really loved the special sauce, which seems to be one of the popular picks here.
SALAD BOWL: BBQ Chopped Chicken (8.99)
While this isn’t a place we would think to go for salad we wanted to try one of the healthier options. This salad was huge and included crispy romaine, slaw, cheddar, black beans, tomatoes & crispy tortilla strips. The recommended sauce is bourbon brown sugar BBQ & buttermilk ranch sauces, but we found a variety of sauces could work as well such as bleu cheese. It was a really good salad especially for the price.
FLAVORTOWN FROZEN TREATS (4.99)
We tried both of the flavors of hand-spun milkshakes available. They were rich and creamy (and big!) and such a a treat on a hot day. Anyone who love mint chocolate (like Andrew) would be in heaven with the Triple Double Mint. The Apple Cinnamon Cereal was Julie’s favorite, it has a mainly vanilla/cream flavor but is accented with Apple Jacks, a cool unique treat!
Our Top Sauce Picks
Andrew tends to love BBQ and Asian spices. His top 5 include:
01 Special Sauce
02 Donkey Sauce
08 Bourbon Brown Sugar BBQ
14 Teriyaki
03 Chipotle Ranch
Julie loves spicy and eclectic picks. Her top 5 include:
15 Garlic Parmesean
17. Avocado Crema
07 Cumin Lime Mojo
18 Nashville Hot Honey
19 Peri Peri
The Service
Even though Chicken Guy! is a fast casual restaurant we couldn’t help but notice the service was great. Everyone seemed to be in a friendly and positive mood. From people at the door, food runners, to managers everyone was really helpful and happy to chat. (We looked around and noticed this wasn’t just us either, all the tables around us were quick to be cleared and checked on as well.) We wanted to give a special thanks to managers Brett and Maria for taking care of us during our visit. They and the team went above and beyond.
Final Thoughts
We had a feeling the line at the door was an indication we would enjoy our experience, but we really were blown away. What a cool concept to have a celebrity chef develop all natural and delicious recipes, but make it really affordable for everyone. Everything we tried was oh so good and we were shocked the portions were so large for such a reasonable price. This is probably one of the most economical places in Disney Springs we found it easy to share and try new things on future visits. This is absolutely a great place to stop by for a quick meal while shopping, and we think if you really love chicken and/or sauces you may even want to make a trip to Disney Springs just to try it! (We would recommend trying to visit on a weekday for less crowds.)
The only recommendation we would suggest for improvement is the fountain drinks. There is one small machine that had some Coke products. There was a line at times and It seems they could use a second machine or even consider adding some more drink options like some unsweet ice tea perhaps. Overall we had an amazing time and will certainly be visiting again soon. Thanks again Chicken Guy! for hosting us for this awesome feast!
