Since moving to Florida we have become big fans of Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. It’s only about a 40 minute drive from our house in Orlando and we enjoy going a couple times a year to explore various Space exhibits. (Check out our main guide to visiting KSC here.) During the Fall is one of our favorite times to visit, because this is the time for Taste of Space: Fall Bites! food festival. We recently took a trip to the visitor center to try various limited edition dishes. Read on to learn more about this fun festival…
About Taste of Space Food Festival
From Oct. 3 – Nov. 6, 2022, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex offers a special menu of limited edition Fall inspired bites
You can find a variety of drinks, desserts, and meals at several eateries throughout the complex.
Guests who add the Chat with an Astronaut enhancement to their regular admission can indulge in beer cheese dip with a fresh pretzel. Local brews will also be available for purchase inside Planet Play.
Plus, guests can look forward to festive after-hours events, including the 2nd Annual Taste of Space “Marstini” Shake-Off contest on Oct. 7 and 2022 Taste of Space Celebrity Chef Event on Nov. 4.
Moon Rock Cafe Taste of Space Menu
The Moon Rock Cafe is located in the Apollo/Saturn V Center (requiring a quick bus trip over to the area.) This eatery has indoor and outdoor seating and a variety of food options. The specialty items for Taste of Space include:
Wisconsin Beer Cheese Soup with Bacon and Pretzel
Turkey Cranberry Brie Sandwich
Pumpkin Cheesecake
We tried the soup and cheesecake and both items ranked as favorites. The soup was really thick and creamy with a good amount of bacon. The pretzel roll was perfect to dip in the soup. The cheesecake tasted just like pumpkin pie but had a fluffy and creamy consistency. Both items were delicious!
Orbit Cafe Taste of Space Menu
The Orbit Cafe is located in the heart of the main visitor area (near the IMAX theater and Planet Play). The seasonal menu here features a few items:
Cheesy potato casserole with an artisan bratwurst
Black forest cupcake
Citrus gelatin dessert with a lemon foam topping
We tried the casserole and cupcake. While the casserole looked a little small at first we soon realized the serving was plenty. This great comfort dish mixed potatoes, cheese, bratwurst, and sauerkraut and was a great balance of flavors. The large cupcake was very chocolatey with a bit of cherry flavor. We found it to be moist and a good portion.
Space Bowl Bistro Taste of Space Menu
The newest addition to Kennedy Space Center is Gateway. Inside this gorgeous building you will find the Space Bowl Bistro with plenty of healthy options. There is one specialty item for Taste of Space on this menu:
Cranberry Smoothie
This dairy free option includes flavors of cranberry, orange, banana, and agave. While it was a good little smoothie, we found that we didn’t taste cranberry that much, and some of the other fruit took over.
There was one last stop that we didn’t get a chance to visit this year: Milky Way Cafe. Their special Taste of Space item is a delicate and delicious apple blossom pastry with caramel drizzle.
Final Thoughts
We always love a trip to Kennedy Space Center and the Fall is a great time to visit. We love the Taste of Space: Fall Bites as we get to go around the whole visitor center and try limited edition food. We have found the food to always be really good and a decent price, plus we love the fall theming. We hope to try some of the additional events sometime soon. Have you ever been to Kennedy Space Center?
